9-11-01

Hey blog readers...it has been roughly 4-weeks since my last post. "Spare Time" has been pretty thin around our house lately. Sharkboy is playing football, so 2 nights a week we are at practice until 7:30 and usually rolling in the door around 8. Jenny is back on her normal "School Year" hours, so her time at the house is pretty diminished. I have been on a Tues/Thurs rotation lately, so I have been little help with the football practices. Not to mention work keeps me pretty busy with the projects and trainings going on. So I thought I would take a minute and reflect on some events (some current, some not so current)

First I would like to take a moment to remember those who lost their lives 9 years ago today. Some coward terrorists thought they would come over and destroy us...well they scared us, but they certainly didn't destroy us. 2,977 people lost their lives, 343 Firefighters, 60 Police officers, 15 EMS workers and 55 Military personnel. 246 people died on planes they boarded not knowing what was going to happen. Those are crazy numbers! Our soldiers who protect us have lost many since then as well, in our efforts in the middle east. I know I will never forget where I was. I was sitting in a conference room at Steel Warehouse, one of the Administrative Assistants came in and interupted us and told us we needed to turn on the TV. She said what was going on was "way bigger then us" and was she ever right. We watched the second plane strike the tower. Then we were all basically glued to the TV the rest of the day. I worked at the fire house that night. It was humbling, I remember Jenny not wanting me to go, I remember feeling I absolutely had to go. I feel honored everyday to do the job that I do...I know that it could require me to make that sacrifice, I also know that I work with some of the best people in the world and any one of the would do the same. So take some time reflect, remember and if you see a Firefighter today or a Police officer or a Military person take a second and thank them for what they do every day.

Ok...on to this wack job in Florida that want to burn the Koran. I will address it this way:

Dear Major News Networks,

As a proud red blooded American I would like you to stop giving press to the whack job in Florida. Prior to you covering his story as a major story, he preached to less than 50 people a week. There were more people at his press conference than in his congregation. He, prior to your involvement, did not have a major public voice, and I am not sure he should. You have given him this voice. Also, the threat to the troops in the Middle East is because of you. They would not have known about this if you would not have over covered it. Never mind them burning our flag and images of our leaders on a daily basis. So ultimately, minus the whack job wanting some attention, it is mostly your fault. So stop covering it.

Sincerly,

Plays With Sirens

Ok...that is about it about that.

So, other than football and the usual busy life stuff of grown ups, not much else to report.

I will try to be more prompt with updates...until next time.

Be Kind, Be Safe...

Shalom my Peeps!
